Spirit of Brotherhood Church reaches out to people who are far from God and leading them into their purpose through an encounter with God. We believe in God's word and hold it to be truth.

OUR HISTORY

The first meeting of the ministry took place in 1977 in a home in New York City.  As the group continued to grow in 1978, we requested to meet in the basement of a nearby Catholic Church, Our Lady of Sorrows to have our meetings. On May 19, 1979 Tony & Luisa Torres were married. In 1980 we started our first program to evangelize in families’ homes in New York City.

In 1985 our first board of directors was formed and we established our official office space.  In that same year we also travelled to the Dominican Republic on our first mission’s trips and formed community groups in various communities.

In 1988, the board of directors met to choose the name for the group and we established it as: Charismatic Prayer Group Spirit of Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

On February 1st, 1989 the Catholic Church declared that we did not share the same beliefs.  That same day the ministry of Spirit of Brotherhood Church was born. The doors closed in one place for us, but the Lord had opened doors for us elsewhere, where we held our first service at a church in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

We were led by the former pastor of Fountain of Salvation Church Pablo Fernandez in New Jersey, where he baptized the group and help us to start our church plant.  He then ordained Tony and Luisa Torres as Sr. Pastors of Spirit of Brotherhood Church.

In 1992 we prayed and acquired our current building at 167 South 1st Street in the Williamsburg community of Brooklyn, New York.  After remodeling the church we moved in on September 3 1994 and since then God has been moving and transforming lives in a powerful way in our midst.
